Aceball is Back

On Friday, the Reno Aces had their home opener. Of course, Chris was there to cover the game, so I went with our friends Chris and Tyler and we ran into many other friends throughout the evening.
One of the new menu items this year is The Big Cheese. It's a garlic cheese focaccia, and it's huge. And delicious. (Don't worry, even though I'm eating for two, I split this with Chris and Tyler.)
It was a little cold and windy, but it's great for baseball to be back in season in Reno. The Aces won the game, and fireworks followed! I'm looking forward to many more games before baby arrives.

Go Team

Last weekend was Homecoming and since I average about one game a season and since Nevada was hosting San Jose State, we decided to go. My original plan was to create a hybrid Nevada-SJSU T-shirt, but I couldn't find a Wolf Pack shirt at the thrift store, so I went with this instead.
Before the game, we joined our friends for some tailgating festivities.
They were anxious for Chris to arrive with the Baggo, of course.
Did you know Chris was such a multi-tasker?
As for the game, the Wolf Pack won, as was expected, but the Spartans scored in the double digits, which nobody really expected, so that was a victory-of-sorts in itself. (Of course, yesterday was a bad day for both teams.)
Good times. See you next year, Mackay stadium.

Spring?

The morning after Easter we woke up to a fresh dusting of snow on the ground. I'm pretty sure this has been the Longest. Winter. Ever. Luckily, by mid-week, the temps were up in the 60s (heat wave!) and trees around town were spotted sprouting pink and white blossoms. It seemed as though Spring had finally sprung. The final piece of evidence came Thursday with the start of baseball season in Reno!
You may recall last year I was a little bummed to miss opening day, so I was pretty excited this week when I got to shoot the opener against Fresno, which the Aces won after 12 innings. Whoa!
Here is Chris, working hard in the press box ...
And here I am shooting some of the action. Hooray for baseball season!

P.S. It's currently 36 degrees and raining, with a chance of snow overnight.

Chris vs. Chris

Earlier this week, I was assigned to shoot video for the RGJ at Wolf Pack Media Madness, where the Nevada basketball coaches invite local media to go through a basketball practice. I was happy to go since Chris was going to participate. (You can go here to see that video on RGJ.com.) Below you can see the action from the one-on-one game Chris played against his friend and co-worker Chris Murray after practice. (I use the word "action" loosely, they were moving a little slow after practice.) Apparently, Murray won last year, but this week Gabel tied up the series.

The thing about football is ...

I don't really understand it. I can never really enjoy watching it because, unless some dude is running into the endzone with a ball in his hands, I have no idea what's going on. I mean, I really have no idea. If only I knew someone who knew something about sports, someone who wrote about football for a living maybe, who could just explain it to me ...
So, we went to the UNR-UNLV game on Saturday, and the Wolf Pack went nuts in the fourth quarter, this much I understand. We won by a lot. But first, we tailgated. And, silly me, I forgot to take pictures after the first tailgate. (We made appearances at four.)
Sandor and Ray are really taking this tailgate business quite literally.

Inside the game, it was a little chilly. Chilly because of wind. My ears hurt.

But Nevada won, and kept the cannon, so that made for good times. Want to see more pictures? Click here.
